Who Will Be The Legendary Artists 20 Years From Now?

Last night I was watching Behind the Music: Courtney Love (which was amazing, let me tell you) and I was so taken aback by how RAW she was performing in the nineties that it floored me. I know her tour manager called it a disaster whenever she would open her mouth on stage, but those performances have come to be nothing short of legendary in the past fifteen years.

I’m FINALLY, after almost four long years of unwavering support, getting to see Courtney live a week from today, and while I’m about to die waiting in antcipation, I can only imagine what it would have been like to see Love in her prime.  Yes, she’s clean and sober now and is still putting on a great show, but who doesn’t love Love when she’s stage diving and telling audience members to “get up on stage so I can kick your butt”?  Which got me thinking, which artists of my generation will be the ones that twenty years from now everyone will say, “I would have KILLED to see them in their prime”?

Read on for my possible predictions, and please add yours in the comments! Continue reading

Carney Hit Sundance

Image...

The future rock stars of this year (you can quote me on that), Carney, hit up Sundance last week performing a few songs at the ASCAP Music Cafe.  The guys will be releasing their debut album in the spring of this year before heading off to New York to do the Broadway musical of Spiderman. And on a related side note, if you get a chance to see them in concert any time soon (check their myspace for dates), I strongly encourage it.  I have never seen anything like it in my life.

A few of the videos of songs like “Love Me Chase Me” and “Think of You” after the jump! Continue reading

Evan Rachel Wood Featured in Carney’s Love Me Chase Me Video=Awesomeness

After months and months and months and months of waiting, Carney has finally released their video for “Love Me Chase Me” and it was definitely worth the wait.

You guys might remember them if you caught them this summer on the road with the Veronicas or Gov’t Mule, OR you might have heard of them after it was announced that Reeve got the role of Spiderman in the Broadway musical being directed by Julie Taymor.  But if this is your first time witnessing their genius then please prepare yourself.  In order to fully understand Carney, blend together Jeff Buckley in the form of lead singer Reeve Carney then add in the music of Zeppelin or Skynard mixed in with some randomness like the Beatles and you have the band who’s sound is extremely hard to pin down.

And yes, that IS Evan Rachel Wood, who will be playing the part of Mary Jane on Broadway, in the video.  Girl is fierce.   Personally I love that in a year when MTV is not playing videos anymore and the art is a dying form, that bands like Carney and singers like Lady Gaga (yes I am comparing the two) are actually concerned with making concept driven videos that appeal to their fans.

But what are your thoughts on the video?  Anyone love it?

Also one more thing: Zane and Reeve have a younger sister, Paris, who also has some incredible music that you can listen to myspace.com/pariscarneymusic CARNEY can be found at myspace.com/carneythe band and Twitter (names: reevecarney, zanecarney, aidenplaysbass, jonnyepcat)

Artist To Die For: Paris Carney

photo1

It’s been a while since I’ve done Artist To Die For, but that’s only because it took me forever to decide who to do because I’ve found so much amazing music lately. But this time I decided to do a true indie artist: the incredible Paris Carney.

If the last name sounds familiar, that’s because it is–she’s the sister of Zane and Reeve of Carney. For some strange reason though, she has yet to get a record deal. So please, SOMEONE get this girl a record deal! Because the girl has got raw talent. Her lyrics are poignant, and sung like you’re listening to someone’s diary. And her voice is laced in honey-drenched harmonies and vocals that can stop you dead in your tracks. If Johnny Long or Ray Lamontagne had a little sister, it would be her. Also reminiscent of Jenny Lewis, Jewel, and A Fine Frenzy’s confessional style of writing, accoustic sound and vocals, Paris’s music is the kind that you akes you over and doesn’t let go.

One thing that I personally find so inspiring about Paris is how hard she works so hard to be heard and get her name out there. If you sign up for her email list you’ll begin to notice she does A LOT of shows in and around LA. (And she’ll actually be opening for Johny Long pretty soon!) I think she’s a true testament to girls, and anyone else like me who’s nineteen and has a dream of doing something, that you can be anything you want to be as long as you put yourself out there, have the talent, and work for it. She’s also an incredibly sweet and gracious person which only makes you hope that one day she will get all the success she so deserves.

You can follow her on Twitter @ParisCarney and get all the info on upcoming shows, plus listen to new music on her myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/pariscarneymusic

And you can listen to a few of her songs below!

“Memoirs” (because the name of the song isn’t on the video)

Carney Is Playing At Lollapalooza!

If you’ve been wondering to yourself, “Where has B been all this week??!” Or, “Why has there not been five or more upates a day?”

Well let me refer to you to the dudes in the video above as the reason.  Carney was back in town this week so I was busy hanging out with them and whoring their concert.  Sorry.  I have my priorities.

For those of you lucky enough to attend the Lollapalooza festival though, Carney will be playing TOMORROW at 12 on the Citi stage.  The guys made a video about it which you can watch above.  So to anyone in the Chicago area, you will not be disappointed if you see them live tomorrow.  They put on the best show I have ever seen in my life.

I swear to God they are going to be the next big thing.

Also, follow them on twitter!!! Links: Reeve, Zane, Aiden, and Jon.

Carney Wraps Up Revenge Is Sweeter Than You Ever Were Tour

Carney

Zane Carney posted these photos on Twitter of a recent show Carney did opening for the Veronicas.  The guys play their last show tonight for the “Revenge Is Sweeter Than You Ever Were” tour and Zane recently Tweeted how it has been the best tour ever.

They’re coming back to my town in August for a headlining show and I could not be more excited.  I have about a million friends coming (I whored them out like you wouldn’t believe) and I’ll probably have no voice by the end of the night but I’m so excited to see their epic-ness again live.

I was also lucky enough to pick up their EP “Nothing Without You” the other day–it was the last one the store had–and it was, of course, amazing.  So I decided to share with you guys my new favorite song, “Nothing Without You” (which has also been called “I Will Be Your Lover”–personally I like that name better, it sounds seductive).  The song is pretty original in it’s sound and the guitar licks will get stuck in your head. Plus Reeve’s vocals are nothing short of brilliant.

Pictures and video of the song can be found below. Continue reading

Reeve Carney Live At Molly Malone’s

Interestingly, my story on Carney has gotten the most hits this site has ever had…SOOOO I figured why not give you guys more?  And I totally don’t mind.  They’re an amazing band, no?

A few years ago, Reeve did a solo concert at Molly Malones, a regular for the Carney siblings, which was made into a CD that can be found on the likes of Amazon.  But lucky for you, if you happen to want it RIGHT NOW, it’s on iTunes.  Full of lovely songs with incredible vocals, it’s a pretty stellar album.  Check it.

Artist To Die For: Carney

Every once in a while, a band or artist comes along that will absolutely make me lose my mind because of their awesomeness. This happens rarely, mind you, because I get bored easily. But so it was, Sunday night as I was standing at the Veronicas show waiting for the opening act to start while avoiding all of the  classy drunk people, that I had my world absolutely rocked by the band Carney.  Made up of a group of lifelong friends and two brothers, Carney sounds like a mixture of Jeff Buckley meets the Beatles. Fronted by Reeve Carney, who sounds and resembles Jeff Buckley so much that it’s freaky, the band commanded the stage with an air of coolness and ease that had the audience eating out of their hand by the end of their set.  I think I pretty much had an eargasm by the time the last song was played.

After the show, the band hung out at the merchandise table where I got the chance to meet and talk to them for  a while and all I can say is, I hope nothing but great things happen to them.  They are one of the friendliest bands I’ve ever met and they made an effort to talk and get to know everyone who stopped by.

Much to my happiness, their first single “Love me Chase Me” was JUST released on iTunes and can be purchased here. Also check out the lovely video above of one of my favorite songs  of theirs “Imperial Lover.”  It’s like cotton candy for your ears.
